Children, Youth and Families

Families with children at Sunday worship

At St Ternan’s we encourage a safe, nurturing space between all ages, thus people of all ages are welcome to join in all of our worship. Young worshippers will find a colouring-station at the front of the pews. There are also busy boxes (designed for ages 0-3), stored at the back, which can be taken to wherever you are seated. We encourage our littlest worshippers to sit near the front where they can see.

On the third and fifth Sundays of the month, we have services of All Age and Family Worship, when there is no Sunday School. Please see the ‘Regular Services’ page for more details.

On all other Sundays (1st, 2nd and 4th) a Sunday School with Crèche is available during the 11am service. Children begin in Church for the start of the service and return for Communion. All adults leading and assisting with Sunday School are members of the PVG Scheme. Our Sunday School is an informal environment, where learning is facilitated based on the principles of storytelling, exploring the holy, fellowship and worship. Materials used include ‘All Sorts Worship’, ‘Godly Play’ and (for toddlers) Play’n’Pray.

Going out for Sunday School is optional for our young worshippers: if your child prefers to stay in Church there is no minimum age requirement for doing so.

Youth Activities

Youth @ Tease

On the 1st Sunday of the month, there is a dedicated session for youth during the 11am Service. The young people begin in Church for the start of the service, before heading out to Tease café on the High Street with our youth leaders for a facilitated discussion about faith, life and everything. The young people rejoin the service for Communion.

On 2nd and 4th Sundays young people can choose to help at Sunday School or remain in Church for the service.

Additional Activities for Youth and Young Adults

Our young people (aged 10+) and young adults gather at the Rectory most Sundays for dinner and informal fellowship between 5-7pm. Please contact Henna if you would like to come along, as this group does not meet every week.

Approximately once per month, the young people meet in the Church Hall on a Sunday evening from 5-7pm for a meal and a more structured session of activities.

When young people indicate that they are ready to go deeper in their life of faith, we offer classes of Preparation for Confirmation. One-to-one mentoring and Spiritual Direction are also available.

Additional Activities for families with pre-school children.

Every Friday morning, families with pre-schoolers are invited to the Rectory between 10:00-12:00 for ‘Coffee, Chat and Play.’ Please contact Henna if you would like to come along.
